Dryad 'PlouPlane'...
I came across what was tagged as “early plough plane” but on further inspection it was… well it was a plough plane, but for book binding, not woodwork. I guess it is used for trimming page ends on a bound book to level them off.  The pages clamp in like so… and the plane is, well it’s ploughed across the paper. And the blade does the work… et voila: nice...

Othello, antler-handle, hunting knife
I was given my Grandad’s knife he had stored away. No one knew much about it, where he got it or why he owned it. As it is most likely to be from the 60’s, maybe, then it’s possible that he got it in South Africa, where he could have been during this time. Anyhow, just as it has its beauty as an object, it has its lethality as a knife. When fully open the blade (not...

New Forest Camping
My first chance to use my Polish army surplus tent-come-water proof poncho (x2) It isn’t clear but that is Aunty Tally crossing a small bridge surrounded by sludgey mud (mudge). And here is a black cow mooching around the woods for food.

TRUE TALES of ADVENTURE
I couldn’t fit a double pager in the scanner so I did my best to take photos For those who can’t read this, it says: To Victor, With Love from Aunty Eena and Uncle John Christmas, 1935.

New Treasures
Picked up these two knives (two on the left) yesterday. Now my army knife collection is not just one knife. knife - knife-can opener-screw driver - knife-pointy The handle was black when I got it, a bit of wire wool and oil and it went this colour. Still not sure if its wood, leather or some sort of resin.  Fielder & Sons, Southsea This got me excited, seeing the date and arrow...

A Deeper Shade of Khaki
Just thought I’d document the different shades of khaki in my collection. Some seem faded green as if sand blasted by the desert… …some have olive green buttons… …some have brass… …some have cross-over belts…   …some have cinches… …some are dated 1954… … and these are from the 2000 Levi’s Vintage...

… my Great Grandma, Great Granddad, and their daughter and son (my Grandma, and her brother) came over on the “Cilicia”, from Karachi. Granddadda banked his pension, working for the British Railway, in India (by the looks of it) and booked a place on the ship for his family. The journey took them 6 long weeks… …The first stop was Liverpool, but found...

"PLEASE HELP YOURSELF"... and I did!
I came across this sign in someone’s front garden, wondering the backstreets of Catford at night. It was a pile of children’s toys, golf balls, odd electrical parts. I thought nothing like this will escape my scavenging, so I searched among the crap, till my hand nudges a cast iron base. I picked up what I first thought was a clock, put it in my bag and waited till I got home to have a...

Please excuse the sheet and the bad photos, but the table is still dripping with lacquer. All held together with broom-handle dowels. I’ll put better photos up once it’s good and ready to be photographed. It doesn’t like too much attention!
