“PLEASE HELP YOURSELF”… and I did!
I came across this sign in someone’s front garden, wondering the backstreets of Catford at night. It was a pile of children’s toys, golf balls, odd electrical parts. I thought nothing like this will escape my scavenging, so I searched among the crap, till my hand nudges a cast iron base. I picked up what I first thought was a clock, put it in my bag and waited till I got home to have a proper look at my findings. It was this set of weighing scales. It was black with grease and dirth. I cleaned it up this morning and it was a 1940’s green, matching my clock, some sea-pennies and a metal dustpan I also found by the curb. It’s a Salter Postal service scale. It fits in nicely with the newly painted kitchen, which is also green.
